“We get to learn the techniques, what’s required, the state laws,” said student Miriam.

“As a pharmacy technology student we’ve learned all the medical terminology. You pretty much learn everything you need for every branch of pharmacy, so you can go into retail, you can go into oncology,” said student Michael.

Students spend time in both the lab and the classroom. The lab is where they get their hands-on training. They learn how to count prescriptions, how to deal with customers, how to make IVs and how to protect themselves when they’re working in a hospital.

“My favorite part of the program is the hands on, being able to compound,” Miriam said.

“Compounding is when you mix ingredients to create something complex,” explained student Victoria.

Students also have the opportunity to do an externship, where they get to apply what they’ve learned in class in an actual pharmacy setting.
