Conveniently located just south of the intersection between Stockdale Highway and New Stine Road, the Carrington College Bakersfield campus provides hands-on Medical, Nursing, Dental, and Veterinary certificate and degree programs. The more than 30,000-square-foot campus includes lecture rooms, computer labs, program-specific training labs, a library and learning center, and a student break area. The second campus, located on California Avenue, is home to our Vocational Nursing program and includes lecture rooms, a simulation room, a skills lab, a library and learning resource center, and a student lounge.
Carrington College serves communities throughout the southern San Joaquin Valley between Visalia and Santa Clarita, including Tulare, Tipton, Delano, McFarland, and Pixley.

Medical Programs Available at Carrington College’s Bakersfield Campus
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Diagnostic medical sonographers capture ultrasound images to help diagnose patients. (1) Carrington College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program provides hands-on training in abdominal, OB-GYN, and vascular imaging. Students practice with ultrasound machines, exam tables, probes, and related equipment. Earn an Associate of Science degree in as few as 18 months.
Medical Office Administration
Carrington College’s Medical Office Administration program prepares you for front-office roles in medical practices, healthcare facilities, or insurance companies. Through hands-on experiences, you’ll gain essential skills in medical billing, coding, patient recordkeeping, and office management in a program-dedicated lecture space. Earn your Certificate of Achievement in as few as 9 months.
Vocational Nursing
Vocational Nurses provide basic medical care, monitor vital signs, document patient care, provide comfort, and help patients dress, bathe, and eat as needed. (2) Carrington College’s Vocational Nursing program offers a quick path to becoming a nurse, while preparing students to sit for licensed vocational nurse exams. * Earn your Vocational Nursing certificate in as few as 12 months.
Pharmacy Technology
The Carrington College Pharmacy Technology program is an option for those who want to interact with the public but who may not want to perform clinical tasks. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in delivering medications to the public; measuring, packaging, and labeling prescription medication; entering patient information into databases; accepting payments; and processing insurance claims. Medical Assisting
Medical assistants are a vital part of any healthcare office, completing administrative and clinical tasks in physicians’ offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. A medical assistant may take a patient’s vital signs, record a patient’s history and personal information, and schedule appointments. (5)
The Medical Assisting program at the Carrington College Bakersfield campus gives students hands-on opportunities to develop the skills for entry-level medical assistant positions, including practice with an autoclave, EKG machine, and injection arm trainer. Earn your Certificate of Achievement in as few as 9 months.
Respiratory Therapy
Carrington College’s Respiratory Therapy Associate of Science program in Bakersfield prepares students to assess and treat patients experiencing breathing difficulties, from premature infants with underdeveloped lungs to adults with asthma, COPD and other cardiopulmonary conditions (6). In learning environments designed to reflect professional healthcare settings, students gain hands-on experience with ventilators and an adult crisis auscultation mannequin while developing skills in patient assessment, respiratory treatment and clinical care. The CoARC-accredited program can be completed in as few as 18 months and prepares graduates to pursue the National Board for Respiratory Care’s Therapist Multiple-Choice and Clinical Simulation examinations.*
Surgical Technology
Prepare to enter the operating room with Carrington College’s Surgical Technology program. Surgical technologists—sometimes called operating room assistants—help prepare patients for surgery, drape patients before procedures, prep equipment, and generally assist surgeons as they operate. Dental Assisting
Dental assistants help hygienists and dentists with routine procedures like passing instruments and sterilizing equipment, and help keep patients comfortable during visits. (4) Carrington College’s Dental Assisting program includes classes on anatomy, physiology, and radiography, dental sealants and procedures, as well as front office duties and patient care. Students practice taking dental X-rays using an industry-current digital imaging system. Earn your Certificate of Achievement in as few as 9 months.

Veterinary Assisting

Equipment for Hands-On Practice
Carrington College provides industry-current equipment and tools to help students develop their skills. For instance, Medical Assisting students at the Bakersfield campus have access to equipment like an Autoclave, EKG Machine, and Injection Arm Trainer. Dental Assisting students practice taking X-rays using a digital imaging system, while Pharmacy Technology students use equipment to simulate reviewing and filling prescriptions, including computers, registers, sinks, and shelves stocked with empty prescription bottles.
The Respiratory Therapy program features training equipment like an adult crisis auscultation mannequin and ventilators, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography students practice conducting ultrasounds using fully equipped exam tables with ultrasound machines, probes, and other critical tools.
The California Avenue location features a simulation room and skills lab fully equipped with essential tools and supplies to create an interactive, engaging learning experience for Vocational Nursing students, including gurneys and mid-fidelity mannequins.
