Valentine’s Day on a College Budget

February 10, 2012

Valentine's Day on a College BudgetValentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means it’s time to show your special someone how much you care. And if you’re on a college budget, there are plenty of things you can buy or do, without burning a hole in your pocket.

Here are some romantic ideas that can help you express your love without spending a ton of money.

1. Picnic at the Park

Pick your significant other’s favorite park or go to one that you’ve never been to before and find a quiet spot. Bring some picnic foods, such as sandwiches, cheeses and fruits along with a couple blankets. (One to sit on and one to cuddle with.)

2. A Romantic Movie Night

Rent a romantic comedy, such as “The Sweetest Thing” or “Bridesmaids,” or a serious romantic movie, such as “The Notebook” or “Ghost.” Snuggle up on the couch in your pajamas with some popcorn and favorite beverage and enjoy the movie and each other’s company.

3. Make Dinner Together

Cooking dinner at home is an inexpensive way for a date. To make it romantic and intimate, cook it together. When you accomplish a task together, it can be a bonding experience between the two of you. Plus, if it turns out bad, you don’t have to feel terrible for not eating it.

4. A Walk at Sunset

Grab your beau’s hand and go for a walk at a local spot that has a great view of the sunset. Hike up a mountain, go to the local beach or walk around downtown and stop and get a coffee or ice cream. Sometimes just simply enjoying time together can be romantic enough.

5. Make No Plans

Go for a drive with no destination in mind. Drive for about 30 minutes, stop and do whatever is at the place you have arrived. You might end up at a local café, boutique or saloon.

6. Dessert for Your Sweetheart

Instead of going out for dinner, just go out for dessert. Chocolate fondue, cheesecake and well, anything sweet, can make your Valentine’s heart melt.
