Do you know someone who is detail oriented, assertive, interested in science and looking for a new career? If so, let them know that they may find themselves at home in the field of medical laboratory technology. Medical laboratory technicians, often working under the supervision of a medical laboratory scientist, are critical to the health care industry. They perform the complex test procedures on blood and other body fluids that help doctors and clinicians offer their patients a diagnosis. The Carrington College Medical Laboratory Technology program can be completed in as few as 22 months. The program offers students the chance to gain a broad base of knowledge and culminates in an Associate of Science degree for successful graduates. To prepare them for the range of responsibilities expected of an entry-level medical lab technician, our students are taught classes that cover subjects such as clinical chemistry and instrumentation, hematology, immunohematology (transfusion medicine), serology, urinalysis, and microbiology. A very hands-on program, more than 50% of our students’ class time is spent in lab instruction, where they can apply the concepts, theories and methods learned in the classroom. The program concludes with an externship at a clinical laboratory facility to further sharpen those skills. The final phase of the program also includes a clinical review course that covers test-taking strategies for the American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification exam.* A Medical Laboratory Technology degree can give graduates the opportunity to apply for positions in a wide variety of workplaces including hospitals, reference laboratories, research laboratories and forensic laboratories. The program, available at our Phoenix Westside and Tucson campuses in Arizona, prepares students for entry-level positions in these kinds of environments.** If you know someone who might be interested in the field of medical laboratory technology, have them talk to a Carrington College Enrollment Services Representative at 1.877.206.2106.
