Carrington College Las Vegas is now offering an Associate Degree in Nursing program that has been approved by the Nevada Board of Nursing. The program will prepare students for a career in registered nursing with a mix of classroom lectures, practical training, and clinical exercises. “We are excited to see the Associate Degree in Nursing program expand beyond the Mesa, Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque and Reno campuses,” said the Dean of Nursing at Carrington College Las Vegas, Dr. Sherry Akins, DNP, RN. “Registered nurses are a vital part of the healthcare industry and critical to enhancing patient-care outcomes. Expanding the program to Las Vegas allows us to continue supporting the community while meeting the local demand for more well-educated nursing professionals.” The Associate Degree in Nursing program may be completed in about two years. It focuses on providing students with the essential skills needed to perform health care duties such as taking medical histories, recording vital signs and symptoms, performing diagnostic tests, drawing blood, and giving injections. As part of the new program students will learn about direct patient care, assessment, diagnostic measurements, procedures, and treatments. This hands-on clinical training enhances the learning experience and helps students develop a work history while completing their studies. It also allows students to further their studies while working in a real-world medical environment. Carrington College prepares students to take the appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors, such as the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams and be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.
