It’s best to have somewhat of a basic cover letter you can tweak as you apply to certain jobs. Don’t be picky. Apply to numerous jobs that may fit into your area of expertise. Even though you may not be qualified for everything the job has listed, you should apply for it anyway. Most places don’t expect you to know everything they have posted. However, having experience in numerous areas is always a plus. In other words, don’t be scared to apply to a job if you don’t meet all their criteria. Network. With all of the different social networking sites available, it’s a good way to put the word out that you are looking for a job. You never know who you may come into contact with. Research. There are numerous jobs listed on websites that are available as well as on company websites. Don’t just limit your search to Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com. There are many other sites that have job search engines. Be persistent. If you are really gunning for a job and have applied, don’t be afraid to give the company a call and speak to the hiring manager or human resources representative. Some companies like people to be aggressive; it shows that you’re really interested in the position. However, don’t be too pushy. It’s tough entering the real world fresh out of college, that’s why it’s important to have internships throughout college and while you’re looking for jobs once you’ve graduated.
