Graphic Design Program
Graphic Design is a program about visual expression and creative solutions
It’s interesting to explore what makes some designs more appealing than others. Imagine being able to better understand what attracts peoples’ attention. Visual communication can be a powerful force, shaping what people buy and how they interact. To be a successful designer, you need creativity, imagination and awareness of current trends. To bring your concepts to life, you also need knowledge of the most recent design software. Ready to showcase your talent? The Carrington College® California Online Graphic Design program can help you take the first step toward a job that allows you to express yourself through your work.
You’ll participate in weekly discussion forums and be given projects that challenge you to push boundaries and develop solutions that are as strategic as they are creative. Throughout your studies, you’ll be able to receive feedback from your instructors and fellow students via email and phone.
Graphic Design is a combination of art, discipline and innovation. Our online program is set up to help you gain the knowledge and confidence to be successful by preparing you to confidently:
- Express your creativity using the latest graphic design software
- Implement the design theories and principles you have learned

- Produce a portfolio that expresses your skills and creativity and allows you to impress potential employers and freelance clients
It's time to learn, envision and create
Previous computer experience isn't necessary in order to be a student in our online Graphic Design program. All that matters is that you have the right attitude to learn new material and a passion for the design process. Through classes like Page Layout and Composition, Print Design, Web Design and Video Editing, you can leave here with a portfolio full of impressive work that showcases the design skills you’ve developed.
While the courses you take will help you begin your career in graphic design, they’ll also help you develop the critical thinking skills that can help you continue to advance. From advertising agencies and publishing companies to design firms and marketing departments, there are many professional avenues you can start down.
You can also become your own boss and pursue work as a freelance graphic designer. This involves establishing rates, developing estimates and generating invoices. We’ll work to prepare you to handle these responsibilities as well as provide you advice on how to best communicate with your clients.
By making sure you’re familiar with the newest software and technology, you become a more marketable professional in the dynamic field of digital media. As a student pursuing your Associate degree in Graphic Design, you’ll learn about design concepts that focus on:
- Photo editing
- Logo design
- Branding and identity
- Desktop publishing
- Website design
- Website animation
- Video editing
Our online program is excellent practice for what a real position in graphic design will entail. In addition to the subject matter covered by our curriculum, the courses require motivation, time management skills and the ability to respond to constructive criticism in a professional manner. After all, success in graphic design isn’t based on creativity alone. It’s important for you to have professional skills that are as impressive as the pieces in your portfolio.
