Medical & Dental Programs
Much like dental assistants, medical assistants are a vital part of a medical office. They work on both clinical and administrative tasks, including:
- Taking patients vitals, such as blood pressure
- Recording a patient’s history
- Scheduling appointments
- Assisting with patient exams
Carrington College’s Medical Assisting certificate program in Citrus Heights can be completed in as few as 9 months for a certificate. Graduates of the Medical Assisting program are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate (CCMA) exam, the national certification exam to attain the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential, and to sit for the national exam to attain the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential. Carrington College prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams or be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.View Program
Blend a passion for helping others and working with the public with an exciting career as a dental assistant. Dental assistants help keep dental offices running smoothly by helping with patient care, recordkeeping, and appointment scheduling. Common tasks may include:
- Prepare patients and the work area for treatments and procedures
- Sterilize dental instruments
- Hand instruments to dentists during procedures
- Dry patients’ mouths using suction hoses and other equipment
- Work with patients on billing and payment

Carrington College’s Citrus Heights campus is conveniently located near Highway 80. It’s easy to find and simple to get there. You can even come by several bus routes making it easy to fit school into your busy schedule.
Based in one building, our 27,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art classrooms. The campus includes classrooms with ceiling‐mounted LCD projectors, a medical library equipped with reference materials, textbooks and journals, a learning laboratory, and science labs. Students also have access to the Carrington library website, which offers online resources and professional organization information.
The Citrus Heights campus classrooms consist of three computer labs, a veterinary technology surgery lab, a dental lab, a medical assisting lab, and five lecture classrooms. Students and faculty also enjoy a student break room, a staff lounge, a student finance area, a career services area, a faculty room with 4 offices and 20 faculty work stations, and 10 administrative offices.
