Practical Nursing Program at Carrington College Albuquerque Receives Approval from the New Mexico Board of Nursing

September 6, 2022

Albuquerque, N.M. (Sept. 6, 2022)Carrington College in Albuquerque is pleased to announce that its first Practical Nursing program in New Mexico has received full approval from the New Mexico Board of Nursing (NMBON), a regulatory agency that directly reports to the office of the Governor.

“The national nursing shortage has made this a perfect time to start a Practical Nursing program,” said Assistant Dean for the Practical Nursing program at the Carrington College Albuquerque campus, Dr. Molly Ashcraft. “Many healthcare facilities are seeking all levels of nurses, and our history with nursing education provides a solid foundation for this new program,” added Ashcraft.

In New Mexico, all nursing programs must attain and maintain approval by the NMBON. This indicates the nursing program has met the requirements approved by the NMBON and is in good standing. Graduates of NMBON approved programs are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon passing the NCLEX-PN, graduates are eligible to become licensed and practice in New Mexico as a Practical Nurse.

The Practical Nursing (PN) certificate program at Carrington College Albuquerque prepares students to take the NCLEX-PN exam in as few as 12 months[1]. Students receive real-world experience in a clinical setting, helping to build confidence as they learn vital skills.

“We are excited that the PN program has gained this approval which recognizes the quality of the program,” said Dean of Nursing at the Carrington College Albuquerque campus, Karen Fuss-Sommer. “The PN program allows our students more flexible options for entry into the nursing profession.”
