On Wednesday, March 26, the Carrington College Boise campus had the pleasure of hosting 21 students from Elevate Academy in Nampa, Idaho. These high school students were accompanied by their Medical Arts instructor, Maddie Hall, who is also a Carrington College Boise campus alumna. They spent an exciting three hours exploring the campus and engaging in interactive learning activities.
The visit kicked off with a welcome lunch and a brief presentation. Students received an overview of Carrington College, learning about its programs and the unique hands-on training offered at the Boise campus. They were also introduced to the Leadership Team and Program Directors, setting the stage for an informative and engaging day.
To maximize their experience, students were divided into three teams, each led by a guide who took them through different areas of the campus. They toured various labs and clinics, gaining insight into different healthcare programs. In one session, students explored Carrington College’s Pharmacy Technology and Massage Therapy programs, where they created their own lotions using essential oils, selecting them based on medicinal properties. They measured, mixed, and named their unique creations before taking them home.
Another group participated in hands-on dental activities. They applied dental sealants and cured a tooth, which they got to take home as a keepsake. They also used dye tablets to identify plaque buildup in their mouths, reinforcing the importance of proper oral hygiene.
Students also learned more about the Practical Nursing and Medical Assisting programs, where they observed a high-fidelity nursing simulation and learned about the various functions of medical mannequins. They assisted with breathing treatments and practiced essential clinical skills such as wound packing, finger sticks, and heel sticks, gaining a firsthand look at patient care in action.
“My students had an incredible time touring all the various programs, and the hands-on experiences made the day unforgettable,” said Hall. “Several students mentioned that this was their favorite field trip so far!”
After rotating through all three areas, the students regrouped for a fun trivia session, where they received Carrington College swag. The event concluded with a Q&A session, where students expressed their appreciation and excitement about the opportunities available to them in healthcare education.
“The visit really engaged the students and got them excited about the next steps in their education,” Hall added. “It was inspiring to see them so motivated about their future careers. I’m looking forward to bringing my future students to tour Carrington College as well.”
The visit was a huge success, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among the Elevate Academy students. Their engagement and eagerness to learn reinforced the importance of hands-on education in shaping future healthcare professionals.
