The Carrington College Stockton campus recently hosted a Blood Drive at 1313 West Robinhood Dr., Suite B, Stockton CA 95207, and everyone was delighted to see people all throughout the community showing their support by stopping by and donating blood. Donations or “units of blood” were collected in the Medical Assisting lab and the turnout was impressive, even exceeding campus drive goals with more than 73% of the donations coming from first time donors. The campus was able to collect a total of 25 units of blood, with each unit having the possibility of saving up to three lives . It takes roughly 45 minutes to take a pint of blood from a donor, and potential donors must first fill out a questionnaire regarding personal health, lifestyle, and recent travel experiences before a short diagnostic screening assesses blood count, blood type, blood pressure and pulse. The actual donation takes about 10 minutes. “We understand the importance of donating blood,” said Freesia Vargas, Medical Assisting Program Director at Carrington College Stockton. “We wanted to contribute to a cause that helps others, and in this case, finding some time to donate can mean saving a life.”
