Students, faculty, and alumni from the Carrington College San Jose Dental Hygiene program recently volunteered at the Santa Clara County Dental Foundation’s “Silicon Valley Healthy Smiles” event in San Jose. As part of the event, the volunteers provided complimentary dental services to more than 2,000 patients from the community at no cost. Tina Der Torossian, D.D.S. and Lotus Mahon, D.D.S, Dental Hygiene instructors at the Carrington College San Jose campus, helped to organize the student volunteers and coordinate the event. Students, faculty and graduates of the Dental Hygiene program who attended the event were proud to show support for their local community. “By the end of the event we were all so exhausted, but proud to see Carrington College show so much support for our community,” said Der Torossian. “It was a great experience for our students and wonderful outreach for the community.” Per the Santa Clara County Dental Foundation’s website, “Silicon Valley Healthy Smiles is a 100-chair, two-day dental clinic where dental professionals work alongside community volunteers, to provide dental care to more than 1,500 underserved members of our community. Our mission is to increase the overall health of individuals and families by eliminating infection and relieving pain. Cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, and assistance in finding a long-term dentist will be provided.”
