Teacher Appreciation Week, held every year in early May, offers the opportunity for students to honor and thank the educators who have a major influence on their lives. This year Carrington College held a competition to see which teacher would receive the most love and support from students, and the feedback was as much heartwarming as it was inspiring.
For most teachers, the greatest reward is seeing students succeed. They want to prepare their students for success, but teaching this year has been exceptionally challenging. Teachers are trying to prepare their students academically while adjusting to an entirely new way of teaching. They are trying to reach students who don’t have WiFi, who are struggling with social isolation, and who have sick family members or parents who are out of work as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
These teachers are working to make our students feel connected and have a sense of normalcy. They’re doing it to help build communities and a brighter future for everyone during these uncertain times. Aside from all of that, people are getting a really good view of what teaching is like as we try to supplement from home. One thing is clear: it’s not easy. So while appreciation alone will not reduce the challenges teachers face, it will let them know their efforts are not going unnoticed.
As a career-focused college that’s been working with some of the best teachers for more than 50 years, we understand the importance of Teacher Appreciation Week and honoring those that help strengthen our communities and provide the education to build brighter futures. That is why we held a contest to see which teacher would receive the most praise and reward them with an Amazon gift card.
We are pleased to announce that Registered Nursing instructor from Carrington College in Reno, Nancy Smith, was the winner this year having received the most appreciation and gratitude from students.
“Her son is going through remission of cancer again, yet that doesn’t stop her from being an incredible teacher to her students,” said one of her students on the nomination form.
“You can truly tell she cares so much about her students and wants them to succeed. She goes way above and beyond for them,” added another student. “I couldn’t have asked for a better and more supportive teacher. She truly deserves it!”
At Carrington College we want to thank all the teachers – and the students who nominated them – for their outstanding work and contributions. There were many positive and inspiring submissions to choose from at each campus. So for every Teacher Appreciation Week let’s be sure to make our gratitude loud and clear. We appreciate all that you do and are honored to have you as part of our community.
