It’s a hot topic that’s gotten a lot of news coverage lately, and now Carrington College’s Reno campus is taking action to help families in need. President Barack Obama talked about the diaper gap at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin. He noted that nearly one in three American families struggle to afford enough diapers, which can lead to serious health problems for both babies and parents[1]. President Obama also discussed the importance of working to provide nonprofit organizations with low cost diapers, to help those families in need. Organizations across the country heard that message and jumped at the chance to help. Students, staff and faculty at Carrington College’s Reno campus came together in March to help bridge that “diaper gap” for the UNR Early Head Start program[2]. To kick off the diaper drive, Alexandria Cannito, from KRNV News 4 Today and Fox 11 Reno stopped by campus to interview student council president Angela Shea, Carrington’s Registered Nursing Program Director Sarah Warmbrodt and UNR Early Head Start Coordinator Doreen Begly. In addition, Cannito challenged the Reno community to donate and help the local head start program. You can check out that interview here. “It is so important for the Carrington College Reno campus to come together and help our community,” said Shea. After three days, Carrington College had collected 57 boxes, which equals a whopping 6,100 diapers! They were all donated to the UNR Early Head Start program. Congrats to our dedicated students, faculty and colleagues for their hard work helping our community! For more information about Carrington College’s Reno campus, please click here.
