About the Program
Medical assistants aid doctors by performing basic clinical procedures and handling a variety of administrative duties. Between 2020 and 2030 the employment of medical assistants is expected to grow 18%, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.1
Medical assistants typically work full time. Some work weekends, evenings, or holidays to help cover shifts in facilities that remain open 24/7.
Medical Administrative Assistant
Medical secretaries, or Medical admin assistants, act as the face of medical practices. They provide vital support tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients, and processing medical records. As a medical secretary you’ll need specialized knowledge of medical procedures and technologies. As an important part of the medical office, medical administrative assistants are in high demand. According to ONet Online, the employment of medical secretaries is 11% between 2020 and 2030. This is faster than the average job growth in the same period2.
Medical Billing and Coding
Medical secretaries and administrative assistants perform routine clerical and administrative duties. Between 2020 and 2030 employment for medical secretaries is expected to grow 11% nationally, which is faster than average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics2.
Employment growth is projected for medical secretaries, primarily due to the growth of the healthcare industry. For example, baby boomers will require more medical services as they age. Medical secretaries will be needed to handle administrative tasks related to billing and insurance processing of Medicare and other claims. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be an additional 64,900 jobs nationally for Medical secretaries and administrative assistants between 2020 and 20303.
Community health workers are crucial to the development and maintenance of healthy individuals and communities. Duties range from providing social support and informal counseling to advocating for community health needs. Community health workers may also provide blood pressure screenings or administer first aid.
