Health Information Technology
Medical records and health information technicians organize and manage health information data for insurance reimbursement purposes, databases and registries, and to help maintain medical histories. Between 2018 and 2028 employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to grow 11%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics2.

Medical secretaries act as the face of medical practices. They provide vital support tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients, and processing medical records. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average mean salary for a medical secretary in May 2018 was $17.83 an hour or $37,090 annually. In California, the hourly mean wage was $20.62, or $42,900 annually4.

The medical billing and coding field employs professionals who are responsible for the organization and accurate maintenance of patient medical records.
