There is always room for improvement in your nursing career. For example, you may want to get into the workforce fast by becoming an LVN or LPN but later may want to return to your studies and advance to be an RN. Such so-called “nursing bridge” programs, also called an LVN to ADN program or an LVN to RN program, help take licensed practical or vocational nurses and train them to become registered nurses.2

Nursing Bridge or LVN to ADN FAQ

  • How long is the LVN to ADN program?

At Carrington College, we offer bridge options to an LVN to ADN or Nursing Bridge associate degree (commonly referred to as an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)) that takes as few as 8 to 12 months to complete. It offers the coursework, confidence, and credential to take the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN)* and earn the RN designation. It is basically an LVN to RN bridge program with an associate degree as a bonus.

  • What is a LVN to RN bridge program?

LVN to ADN and Nursing Bridge are programs designed to offer a licensed vocational nurse (or licensed practical nurse-LPN) an educational “bridge” to the skills and insights they need to take the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN)* and earn their RN designation. At Carrington College, we offer something similar to an LVN to RN bridge program. Our LVN to ADN or Nursing Bridge program could help take your nursing competencies and career to the next level.

  • What should I expect in LVN to ADN and Nursing Bridge programs?

You should expect to come away with the confidence and competencies you need to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN)*. At Carrington College, we offer an LVN to ADN or Nursing Bridge program that will help you prepare for the exam to earn your RN licensure as well as the associate-level degree you could use to advance in your career.

  • What is the difference between LVN and RN?

Both licensed vocational nurses (LVN) and registered nurses (RN) are professional nurses who make a vital difference for patient care. RNs often have more training and shoulder more responsibilities (and have access to greater opportunities) in the medical community. If you’re looking for a way to move from an LVN to RN, Carrington College offers the LVN to ADN and Nursing Bridge programs that can help you prepare to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN)*. Carrington College prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams or be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.
