Often acting as the bridge between doctor and patient, Medical Assistants help doctors provide care to patients in physicians’ offices, urgent care facilities, hospitals, labs, research facilities, and other health care settings.

Well trained, knowledgeable health care professionals, Medical Assistants have the skills to take vitals, perform injections and phlebotomy (drawing blood); they can undertake EKGs (electrocardiograms), point of care testing, in office surgery assisting, and provide patient education.  They can also have the skills to undertake administrative tasks such as scheduling, insurance billing, computer use, and more.

From the classroom to the lab, the medical assisting classes at Carrington College are very interactive. Our students engage in vibrant discussion and research, they role play, perform teamwork building group activities, and have ample opportunity for clinical practice.  To solidify their skills and knowledge, the program includes a clinical externship; this hands-on chance to work in a real world medical practice is the perfect setting to hone new skills and build confidence.

Whether you hope to work in a specific specialty, or in a more general medical assisting capacity, once you graduate from our Medical Assiting program you will need to pass the relevant National Certification Exam to attain the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Medical Assisting can be a rewarding career, with many opportunities for advancement. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics (, employment of Medical Assistants is expected to grow 34% from 2008 to 2018, ranking Medical Assistants among the fastest growing occupations over that decade*.
