If you love animals, consider Veterinary Technology

Veterinary Technician ProgramFor those who really care about animals, there aren’t too many more rewarding careers than that of a veterinary technician. Under the guidance and direction of a licensed vet, a veterinary technician can work in all areas of animal care; from surgical nursing, to lab procedures, to handling client relations and front office administration duties in settings like vets’ offices, animal hospitals, shelters, zoos, or any number of work environments. The Carrington College California Veterinary Technology program, culminates in an Associate of Science degree, offers our students the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare for the California Registered Veterinary Technician State Board Examination 1. The Registered Veterinary Technician exam is the final step on the path to a possible career as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Because veterinary technology is such a hands-on career, our vet tech training program utilizes a skills-based approach to learning. Students are taught the skills they need to work as an entry-level vet tech through a mix of classroom instruction, laboratory practice on live animals and animal simulators, and clinical experience in the field through an externship in a veterinary health care setting. Our vet tech classes cover anesthesia, surgery, clinical pathology, radiology, cardiology, dentistry, animal behavior & handling, client relations, and much more. While not intended as a pre-veterinary program, it does emphasize the fundamentals of chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physiology. The key thing about our program is that it can provide students the hands-on training and real-world experience they need if they wish to go on and perform the duties expected of an entry-level veterinary technician. Pets really are becoming part of the family; owners are more willing to pay for advanced veterinary care because many of them consider their pets to be their ‘fur-kids’. That’s why the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2 forecasts that employment of veterinary technologists and technicians will grow 36% by 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations*. The Carrington College California veterinary technology program is available at our Citrus Heights, Pleasant Hill, Pomona, Sacramento, San Jose, San Leandro, and Stockton campuses.
