Carrington College Veterinary Technology Student Spotlight: Caitlin McKnight
At Carrington College we love animals, and what better time to feature one of our Veterinary Technology students than during National Veterinary Technician Week! Caitlin McKnight has always known she wanted to work with animals.
“I just love animals! I want to help them and make sure their lives are better,” she said. When choosing a college, Caitlin knew she wanted one where the instructors really care about their students. That’s what brought her to Carrington.
“The fact that you can see how much they love what they’re doing and they care a lot about helping you succeed,” she said. Caitlin is in her fourth term at Carrington College and says what she’s learned has helped prepare her for her career.
“You get a lot of hand-on experience and you also get the rotation hours in, and you’re really involved with the animals,” she said.
Caitlin already has a job! She’s working at a veterinary clinic in San Leandro.
“I’m in oncology and radiation therapy, so I’m more in the specialty aspect of it,” she said. She loves being able to take what she’s learned in the classroom and put it to use in the real world.
“I like it, it’s a lot of fun. Every day I go to work and I have a good time,” she said. When Caitlin isn’t helping animals as a Veterinary Technician, she’s playing with her own furry friends! She rescued two dogs from Dublin’s ASPCA.
“One is Buster, he’s a Silky Terrier mix and the other is Riley, she’s a Border Collie and Cattle Dog mix,” Caitlin said. Caitlin is so excited for her future as a Veterinary Technician.
“You get such a satisfaction out of helping little fur-babies. They’re so innocent and delicate and all they want to do is love and I get such a joy out of helping them,” she said.
