Medical radiography is a hands-on career that lets you play an important role in the delivery of care by providing images to help identify problem areas in patients. It is a specialty well suited to those who are outgoing and assertive, because medical radiographers work independently and interact with physicians and patients daily. It also helps if you’re comfortable with new technologies and welcome the challenge of mastering new skills.

Earning your Associate degree in Medical Radiography is an important first step to pursuing a career in this specialized field. One of the primary responsibilities of radiographers, sometimes referred to as X-ray technicians is to position patients and equipment in order to take radiographs, or X-rays. By doing so, you can help medical professionals identify a range of illnesses and injuries. You can also work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret X-rays, to perform diagnostic procedures.

The Medical Radiography program at Carrington College® is designed to provide students with the knowledge as well as the skills needed to pursue an entry-level medical radiographer position. The reasons you should consider this program include:

The growth potential for this healthcare field is clear

As the U.S. population grows and ages, there will be an increasing demand for diagnostic imaging. So it’s easy to see why the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that employment of X-ray technicians may increase by about 28% from 2010 to 2020.* Advances in technology could also help increase demand. As the equipment used in radiography becomes more accessible to facilities other than comprehensive medical centers, new employment opportunities for radiographers could arise in settings such as physicians’ offices, clinics, medical laboratories and medical imaging centers.

A curriculum that can help you position yourself for career success

As a student of our Medical Radiography program, you will receive an education that covers a wide range of material.
