Program expands healthcare field opportunities for students
PLEASANT HILL, Calif. – (June 22, 2010) – Western Career College Pleasant Hill announced today the addition of a fitness training program, which prepares students for positions working with clients in health and fitness clubs, spas, rehabilitation facilities or as an independent personal fitness trainer. The course addition represents the latest step in Western Career College’s commitment to providing quality programs for students seeking careers in the healthcare field. Applications for enrollment are now being accepted for the fitness training program which begins June 28, 2010.
“The fitness training program builds a foundation of critical thinking, business and communication skills that facilitate healthy development, whether working with sports teams or on a one-on-one basis,” said La Shawn Wells, executive director of Western Career College Pleasant Hill. “The core of the program is focused on promoting health awareness by educating others.”
The fitness training program combines the science of exercise with fitness applications in a hands-on environment. During the program, students prepare to take three nationally recognized certifications in the fields of personal training, group fitness instructor and sports performance coach. Students will learn to apply their knowledge to coach, create customized exercise programs and offer nutritional guidance in the three specific fields.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention currently works with 25 states, including California, to address obesity by making healthy choices in nutrition and physical activity available, affordable, and easy. The fitness training program prepares students to help equip people with the knowledge to make healthy decisions.
