MESA, Ariz. – (Nov. 17, 2011) – Carrington College® Mesa, a part of DeVry Inc., a global provider of educational services, has earned a five-year accreditation for its physical therapist assistant associate degree program from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit entry-level physical therapist and physical therapist assistant education programs.
The accreditation was granted based on the college’s demonstration of substantial compliance with the Evaluative Criteria for Accreditation. To ensure continuous quality improvement, Carrington College will be required to complete all required compliance reports and annual accreditation reports.
“As most CAPTE accreditations are granted for two- and four-year periods, it’s an honor to be the only college in the Phoenix-area recognized with a five-year term,” said Val Colmone, executive director of Carrington College Mesa. “It really speaks to the quality of our program and emphasizes the importance of Carrington College’s hands-on approach to education with class-room training, interactive lab exercises and clinical experience.”
In as little as two years, graduates of the physical therapist assistant program are prepared to work under the direction of a physical therapist to help patients restore physical functions, relieve pain and prevent further disability through exercise and other therapeutic treatments.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment prospects for a qualified physical therapist assistant are expected to increase by about 33% through 2018, much faster than other occupations. Employment opportunities exist in a variety of health care settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, schools and sports facilities.
