Medical & Dental Programs
Medical Assisting
Medical assisting is an important role in health care that one can enter quickly, with certificate programs as short as 9 months. Medical assistants can take patient histories and vital signs, help with charting, and generally assist nurses, doctors, and other medical staff. Dental Hygiene
Dental hygienists work directly with patients, instructing them on proper oral hygiene and taking on the bulk of a routine office visit with cleaning, polishing, and applying treatments such as fluoride. Dental hygienists work closely with dentists and dental assistants to ensure patients get proper care and instruction about good oral health. Medical Billing and Coding
Medical billers and coders fill two important roles in health care. Medical billers handle claims to insurance offices, making sure to report procedures to the appropriate payor and follow up on those claims until they are paid. Medical coders help translate medical procedures into codes in patient health records, which are sometimes used by billers to communicate with health insurance providers. Surgical Technology
Prepare to enter the operating room with Carrington’s Surgical Technology program in San Jose. Surgical technologists—sometimes called operating room assistants—help prepare patients for surgery, drape patients before procedures, prep equipment, and generally assist surgeons as they operate. Surgical technology training can be completed in as little as 15 months.
Practical Nursing/Vocational Nursing
There are multiple levels of nursing careers, but for those looking to help patients and enter the workforce quickly, vocational nursing is an option. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs), or licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) hold an entry-level nursing career that takes less time than registered nursing. In California, this career is called licensed vocational nursing. LVNs provide basic patient care under the supervision of RNs and doctors. Carrington’s Vocational Nursing program in San Jose takes as few as 12 months.

Veterinary Technology
For those with a heart for animals, a career in veterinary technology seems like a perfect fit. Vet techs help veterinarians with caring for animals and may draw blood, check vitals, administer medications, and communicate with an animal’s owner. Vet techs may work with domestic animals like dogs and cats, small animals like rabbits and mice, or even wildlife. Carrington College’s San Jose college campus provides hands-on training in a number of medical programs in California. Carrington College’s San Jose campus is centrally located just east of the 101 and north of CA SR-85. Just take the Silicon Valley Blvd exit north off the 101 to Rue Ferrari. Turn left on Rue Ferrari and you’re there!
Modern Facilities
Our 48,800-square-foot San Jose college campus includes classrooms with ceiling‐mounted LCD projectors, a student success center equipped with reference materials, textbooks and journals, a learning laboratory and a dedicated computer laboratory.

The facilities also include a 24‐chair dental hygiene clinic, a six‐chair radiology lab, a four‐chair dental assisting lab, an eight‐bed vocational nursing lab, a professional veterinary technology surgery lab and surgical technology lab, a medical billing and coding lab, and 20 lecture/laboratories.

Between classes, there are plenty of resources and places to study. The San Jose college campus has a student lounge, a staff copy center, a staff lounge and student finance kiosks. The campus has 23 administrative offices offering a variety of student services including enrollment services, career services, and student finance.
