School Welcomes Open House Visitors With Open Arms
Thanks to the Carrington College student body for helping make our July 28 Open House a great success! Students’ friends, family, and the community came to see what Carrington has to offer, and what loved ones do at school. Here are highlights from two campuses…San Leandro and Reno.
Career Focused in San Leandro…
The San Leandro campus offers seven programs – Criminal Justice, Dental Assisting, Massage Therapy, Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Pharmacy Technology, and Veterinary Technology. With so many programs to showcase, the event had to be planned with precision as Jocelyn Creech, Assistant Director, Enrollment Services, explained.
“The Open House Committee met weekly to ensure all details were worked out. We have a shared goal here in San Leandro, the overall success of the event was due to the teamwork of each department and our students. The Program Directors pulled together amazing displays, student mentors answered questions from prospective students, and our staff was warm and welcoming to all,” she said.
Tours were scheduled throughout the day, giving guests the chance to see students in action, as well as view table displays for each program. Instructors promoted ‘Crash-a-Class’ where guests could sign up to understand what active students experience on a daily basis.
A number of demonstrations were held. Criminal Justice students conducted role plays, simulating being a police officer; gathering and recording information from civilians as they document a crime. Dental Assisting students worked on orthodontics, while Medical Assisting students demonstrated venipuncture.
The Career Services team also hosted a career fair on the day; “Our fair was a huge success with 18 employers present, representing all our programs,” Jocelyn explained. “On the spot interviews were conducted and future one on one interviews were scheduled. This event left students, graduates and potential students energized and excited about their future careers.”

Student Appreciation in Reno…
The Reno campus offers certificate programs in Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, as well as an associate degree program in Registered Nursing. The campus, located in the Nevada high desert about 300 miles from the coast, had a ‘beach’ theme for its Open House!
One of the classrooms was decorated with life preservers, plastic beach pails and shovels filled with wrapped mints. Table center pieces included Hawaiian leis, and a shark’s mouth cut-out hung from the ceiling where guests could take selfies.
Becki Rossini, Director II of Enrollment Services in Reno, said, “The campus was filled with excitement about the event! Students would stop in the hallway, greet guests, welcoming them to the campus.”
Staff and faculty took the opportunity to celebrate current students by hosting a Student Appreciation BBQ. “We showed our gratitude with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and dessert,” Becki explained. “We wanted to not only honor our students, but show prospective students and the community how much we value our students, and believe their success is our success!”
Students, instructors, and staff provided tours of the Reno campus and information seminars were held every hour on the hour. During these seminars guests were given detailed information on programs, the benefits of programs, and what’s expected of Carrington College students.
“At the Reno campus we value our guests and students, which is why we work hard to provide the best service possible, to show we truly care about helping others achieve their educational and career goals,” Becki added.
