How to Make Lip Balm
The first supply you’ll need is a 250 milliliter beaker. Place the beaker on a hot plate and add three grams of white wax. Next add in three grams of shea butter and three grams of cocoa butter.
The shea butter, cocoa butter and white wax are mixed together so they become a solid. Stir these ingredients together until they’re completely melted, but make sure you don’t get them too hot because if you do, they could melt the plastic lip balm container.
Next up, add 1.5 grams of petrolatum. This is used as a softener so the lip balm will glide on your lips. Once that is almost melted, add in one milliliter of almond oil. That’s used to add flavor and is also a softener. Without the softeners, the lip balm would be more like a wax.
Once the combination is almost melted, it’s time to add in your flavoring. In our demonstration, we used three drops of eucalyptus oil and three drops of lemon oil. Stir until the mixture is completely incorporated.
While the mixture is still warm, add it into your lip balm containers. Just be careful, your beaker will be hot!
You can find the ingredients listed here at most drug stores.
Let it sit for 15-20 seconds and then your lip balm will be ready to use!
