My Starting Point – Mayra Ruiz Gallegos – Final Thoughts
Well folks, I did it! This is my last blog post before I leave Carrington College, having completed the Pharmacy Technology program at the Mesa campus. I’ll check back in one more time in a month or two so you can catch up on what I’m up to, but you can read my story from the start here if you’re so inclined!
Life-Changing Experience
I can honestly say that my time at Carrington has been life-changing; during our last week in class before our externship, it was so sad to know that we were going to leave our teacher, Mr. Ron, because we’d all got so used to how great he was with us. I guess we were comfortable.
If you decide to enroll on the Pharmacy Technology program in Mesa and get Mr. Ron as your teacher, you’ll soon discover that he tries to build a  relationship with every student, and that relationship can help you through the program.
Firm but Adaptable
He recognizes that everybody learns differently, and he will do his best to help you learn in a way that works for you. He tries to help everybody. There were a lot of ups and downs for all of us, but he always managed to get us back on track and refocused. He wasn’t like a typical teacher in my experience.
Mr. Ron is very friendly, but he knows how to put his foot down when he needs to. He’s very strict on what you need to learn, but if you need help, he will try to motivate you. If we had issues distracting us, he would listen, tell us that he understood what we were going through, but inform us, in no uncertain terms, that we needed to refocus on what we were trying to achieve here.
Always The Joker
The last day of class, when he had to sign us off so we could go on our externship, Mr. Ron had us all sit down so he could tell us whether we had passed the class or not. We were waiting nervously for him, hoping that we would all pass, that none of our group would fail.
So he walks up to us with a blank expression on his face; we can’t tell if he’s happy or sad. There are no clues on his face, no nothing. He stands at the end of the table and asks – “Are you guys ready to know?”
Of course we were ready, we were nervous wrecks… so then he says “Well you guys all failed!” We were in complete disbelief for a moment or two, like “Oh my gosh, how?” but then he smiled, told us that he was just kidding and congratulations, we’d all passed! He gave us a little speech, signed off our paperwork, gave us all a hug and told us we had to come back for a visit soon!
I would have to say that the whole experience since I first went to enroll at Carrington back in the Fall last year has been very touching, and I would recommend it to anybody. I’m looking forward to walking the stage at my graduation ceremony. Honestly I can’t wait! But first I’m going on vacation!
