ARE YOUR RESOLUTIONS STILL ON TRACK?

2013 ResolutionsSo we’re a week or so into the New Year, and it would be interesting to know how many of you have already failed to keep your resolutions? Statistics suggest that only 8% of us will manage to stick to common resolutions like losing weight, quitting smoking, spending less and saving more!

This year we want our Carrington College California online students to contemplate a few different resolutions; promises to yourself that could help you with your education, and benefit you in years to come in your new career

It doesn’t matter whether you’re studying Graphic Design, Criminal Justice, or Health Information Technology, there are a few alternative resolutions that it’s not too late to adopt.

Create your study space. If you have the room then convert a spare bedroom or secluded space into a home office. A devoted area where you go to work will help you focus, rather than sitting at a kitchen table.

Get your stuff together. Good organization = efficiency = better productivity. Once you’ve got your study space together, organize your school materials around you. Have reference materials on hand, and organize yourself online too, by bookmarking essential reference sites.

Get your pc up to date. An efficient, up-to-date, virus free computer can help you maximize your study time. Consider updating your computer hardware if you can afford it, but at least make sure you have all the software you need, including anti-virus programs.

Now you’re organized – get on with some work. You’ve got your study area organized, now it’s time to put it to use. Don’t put off until tomorrow what can be accomplished today. Procrastination is the #1 enemy of online students; come up with some strategies to keep yourself motivated during the year.

Be social online. Building relationships with your classmates and instructors can keep you connected to your studies beyond graduation. They could become valuable contacts or provide important references later in your career.

Be social offline. Make time for family and friends; don’t let your online program be an excuse for not spending quality time with those you love. Schedule study time and family time in advance, and come up with a plan to balance family, work and school.

Update your resume. Work with the Career Services department to focus on your accomplishments. Create a resume packed with relevant content and achievements that set you apart from the crowd. Use the proper resume format, don’t get clever with the layout – focus on the content.

Celebrate your success. Find ways to reward yourself for your ongoing commitment and your achievements. Are you graduating this year? Why not plan a graduation celebration to reward yourself, your loved ones, and conclude your program in style?

Don’t pick just one of these resolutions; try and combine them all into your Carrington College California online education this year – you may be pleasantly surprised at the results!
