Mesa Location Shows Support for 15th Annual Pat’s Run

June 13, 2019

On April 27, 2019, more than 28,000 people visited Tempe, Arizona, to participate in the 15th Annual Pat’s Run, a fundraising event to support the Pat Tillman Foundation’s Tillman Scholars program.

Pat’s Run is the signature fundraising event of the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides academic scholarships to veterans and their spouses in honor of former Arizona State and Arizona Cardinal linebacker Pat Tillman.

The 4.2 mile run/walk led participants through the streets of Tempe and finished at Sun Devil Stadium with a Race Expo and Post-Party. The Carrington College Mesa campus was honored to have faculty and students participating and supporting the event.

“As a military veteran, I was deeply honored to be a part of Pat Tillman’s legacy,” said Emilio Lopez, student at Carrington College and former service member with the U.S. Army. “Pat’s Run was a positive and challenging show of support for the educational advancement of our military, and I thank Carrington College for that opportunity.”

In the aftermath of 9/11, Tillman decided to forego an opportunity with the National Football League and instead decided to join the U.S. Army, turning down a $3.6 million contract with the Cardinals. He was killed on April 22, 2004, while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan.
