How to get a job in the fastest-growing industries with a college degree
If social media is the king of budding careers, then a college education is your knight in shining armor. Some of the world's fastest-growing industries, based on revenue and employment growth for the past 10 years, are hiring, and whether you choose to pursue a renewable energy degree or a master's in business, now is the perfect time to put your thinking cap on and make a mark on these expanding professions.
According to IBISWorld, a market research firm, demand for green and sustainable building construction has soared above expectations, leading construction contractors to substantially alter their business models. Over the past decade, green building projects alone have increased by about 29 percent, and some of the biggest corporations are opening their doors to nature-friendly employees. Additionally, government programs like Energy Star provide incentives for companies to design and build with the environment in mind. Along with renewable energy degrees, you can also nab a green job if you have experience in biology or environmental science. If you have an engineering degree, you could even help out in solar panel manufacturing, which also made the shortlist.
Do you play Skyrim and World of Warcraft like it's your job? Were you one of the millions of gamers who stood in line to get a copy of the new Diablo III? Social network game development made IBISWorld's top 10 list and is expected to double in size by 2017. With a computer programming degree or simply a passion for gaming, you could peruse job listings at major companies like Booyah, Zynga and Electronic Arts - all of which are currently hiring candidates who exhibit a drive for socially based video games.
