Alohomora: Opening the doors to education through the eyes of Harry Potter
Admit it: You're a Harry Potter fan. You dressed up for the midnight premier of the last movie with your closest friends, donning a lightning bolt scar painting with eyeliner on your forehead. Don't be embarrassed. We've all been there, but now it's time to trade in your wand for a college diploma.
You don't have to sacrifice your love for the fantastical book series, and can instead translate the four Hogwarts houses - Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff - into the degree you've always hoped for.
Gryffindor: The brave lion
Do you think you exhibit the qualities of Godric Gryffindor, who was notoriously brave, boasted integrity and could always be trusted? Natural-born leaders like Harry Potter himself should consider pursuing business or marketing to showcase their talent. Business and marketing workers are notoriously strong-willed and have a fervor for leading the pack. Although you might not be fighting off any basilisks during your time at school, you can harness your power to tackle big group projects and rise up above the rest of your classmates as an exemplary student.
Slytherin: The resourceful and cunning snake
Spoiler alert: Slytherins like Severus Snape defy the stereotype that members of this house are sneaky and untrustworthy. If you find yourself wishing you could join the ranks of Snape, who sacrificed himself to save Harry Potter, you may want to pursue a career in healthcare. As a nurse or medical assistant, you have the responsibility of taking care of dozens of unique patients during your shift, whether you're working in a pediatric or geriatric facility.
Ravenclaw: The witty eagle
Even though Hermione Granger was sorted into Gryffindor, her mind was like that of a Ravenclaw, whose intelligence and wit surpasses all other houses' members. Do you excel in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) courses? You, like Granger, could use your smarts to stand out in a STEM career after graduating. You won't be concocting love potions, but could potentially work in a lab that cures diseases.
Hufflepuff: The hard-working badger
Hufflepuffs are known for their humility and devotion to nature. Pomona Sprout, the professor who worked in Hogwarts' greenhouse, was a Hufflepuff, and like her, you could transform your love of the environment into a renewable energy degree. Notoriously eccentric and forever thinking outside the box, Hufflepuffs exude an air of creativity rarely found in any of the other houses, which you could also translate to a degree in graphic design or fashion.
