Carrington College California San Jose Opens its Doors to St. Francis Career College Nursing Students
SAN JOSE, Calif. – (Jan. 25, 2012) – Carrington College® California San Jose, a part of DeVry Inc. a global provider of educational services, has begun offering resources to nursing students from St. Francis Career College - a San Jose-based vocational nursing school that recently announced the campus will be closed as of June 2012. St. Francis students are now able to transfer credit hours and further pursue their educational goals at Carrington College California.
“These are unusual circumstances and as a community leader in health care education, Carrington College California has actively taken steps to work with St. Francis and the California Board of Vocational Nursing to ensure students are able to complete their education and enter into a new career,” said Pamela Frazier, MBA, RN, vocational nursing program director for Carrington College California San Jose. “Nurses are in high demand right now and with our efforts to help St. Francis students there will be more nurses in the field doing what they do best – caring for others.”
Carrington College California is working individually with students who cannot complete their training before St. Francis’ closure date to transfer credits and complete their training at Carrington. The college has already accepted two students who are on track to complete their final term in April, with additional students scheduled to transfer in the spring.
“This process really speaks to the relationships Carrington has within the medical community,” said Frazier. “We have proven that our curriculum develops quality nursing professionals and now certain medical facilities in the area have started to come straight to our career advisors for vocational nursing needs before posting jobs. We are pleased to be able to now offer these opportunities to St. Francis students.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment prospects for license practical nurses are expected to grow 21 percent through 2018, much faster than other occupations. Graduates of the vocational nursing program are prepared to work in a variety of medical settings such as geriatrics, pediatrics, surgery and trauma.
