Carrington College California San Jose and Stockton Campuses Earn Accreditation for Veterinary Technology Associate Degree Program
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – (Feb. 15, 2012) – Carrington College® California, a part of DeVry Inc. a global provider of educational services, has earned accreditation for its veterinary technology associate degree program from the American Veterinary Medical Association – Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA-CVTEA) at the San Jose and Stockton campuses. Accreditation by the AVMA represents the highest standard of achievement for veterinary medical education in the United States.
The five-year term was granted based on the college’s demonstration to meet standards of accreditation, including physical facilities and equipment, clinical instruction, library and informational resources, finances, curriculum and outcome assessment. To ensure continuous quality improvement, Carrington College California will complete all required annual and interim evaluation reports.
“Since receiving their provisional accreditation in 2006, it’s an honor for the Carrington College California San Jose and Stockton campuses to be granted full accreditation which will carry the programs into 2016,” said Jeff Akens, president of Carrington College California. “It really speaks to the quality of our program and emphasizes the importance of the college’s hands-on approach to education with class-room training, interactive lab exercise and clinical experiences.”
In as little as two years, graduates of the veterinary technology program are prepared to work in all phases of animal care including surgical nursing, running laboratory procedures and office administration.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics, employment prospects for a qualified veterinary technologist are expected to increase 36 percent through 2018, much faster than other occupations. Employment opportunities exist in a variety of veterinary health care settings such as animal hospitals, research facilities and animal shelters.
