Academy Award in Education? Actors are going to college, too
It's graduation season, and as you throw on your cap and gown or get ready to watch your friends receive their diplomas, it might please you to know that your favorite celebrities went to college, too. Besides basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal, who's spending his retirement earning degrees left and right, Academy Award winners and sitcom comedians also hit the books, and some of their degree choices are a little surprising.
Among the few celebrities who pursued a degree after hitting it big, James Franco didn't only graduate from one school, but has four separate diplomas from schools across the nation. Don't think that's enough? He's also a PhD candidate in English and is enrolled in art school.
Eva Longoria, one of the four women on "Desperate Housewives," graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology before she entered a talent contest and started her career as a Hollywood actress. A handy degree for massage therapists, kinesiology is the study of human movement. Today, Longoria is a fitness guru and undoubtedly uses her education to help her get the best out of her exercise routine.
Academy Award winner Natalie Portman didn't go to school for acting - mostly because she's been in movies since she was a teenager. With a degree in psychology, Portman has used her education to help her create vivid characters, such as the troubled ballet dancer Nina Sayers in "Black Swan."
You don't have to be a celebrity to accomplish great things in your life. These A-list actors recognize the value of higher education and how it has molded their careers. Whether you pursue business, nursing or dentistry, you can become a celebrity to your friends and family.
