Reno, Nevada – Sept 14, 2009 –Apollo College Reno has announced the grand opening celebration of its new campus on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Located at 5580 S. Kietzke Lane, the school will accommodate up to 250 nursing students and features a library, student lounges, computer labs and a Simulation Lab.
“We recognize the need for qualified nurses in the state of Nevada, where the nurse to population ratio of 604 nurses for every 100,000 people is the second lowest in the nation,” said Leslie Berry, executive director of Apollo College. “Apollo College Reno offers a fast-track to a nursing degree without compromising the quality of its nursing education. We have dedicated faculty who are highly experienced and offer real-world insights into the profession.”
Apollo welcomed its first students to the new 15,000-square-foot campus in Reno on Aug. 31. Apollo will be accepting applications until Dec. 15 for its next semester, which will begin on Jan. 4. Berry expects the Reno campus’ Simulation Lab to attract many students. “The Simulation Lab is a replica of two hospital rooms: one pediatric and one adult,” said Berry. “Both rooms are equipped with state-of-the-industry, fully automatic, high-fidelity patient simulators designed to train students in respiratory and critical care. Cameras capture all patient care activities for later viewing in an adjoining debriefing room, which allows us to evaluate and enhance student skill levels.”
Apollo College Reno offers an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, which takes approximately two years to complete. Some classes will be available online in conjunction with on-campus courses. Financial aid is available for qualified students.
The official grand opening of Apollo College Reno will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 30 at noon. Guests will be invited to take part in a variety of activities, enjoy refreshments, and tour the campus during the festivities.
