Carrington College® California Sacramento will offer complimentary dental services to children on Feb. 4 as part of the annual Smile for Kids Day, a dental and orthodontic program through the Sacramento District Dental Society that provides treatment and oral health education to underprivileged children. Services that will be provided to children that were prescreened by the program in fall 2011 will include basic dental exams, cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions and sealants. Dental assisting and dental hygiene program directors, faculty and students will be on-hand to share tips with children and parents on proper dental care.
“Held in conjunction with national children’s dental health month in February, Smile for Kids Day is part of a program that has proven its success in the community and Carrington is proud to donate our facilities and time to help these children,” said Ann Wallis, instructor of dental hygiene at Carrington College California Sacramento. “Most people have no idea that appropriate dental care is crucial to their overall health. This is a perfect opportunity for us to treat current ailments and teach the children about proper oral care.”
Started by the Sacramento District Dental Society in 1991, the Smile for Kids program provides dental services to economically disadvantaged children and promotes oral health care. The program has helped more than 12,000 children by offering dental screening at area schools, dental referrals for those covered by insurance, free treatment for those with no means of dental care and prevention and education.
