A respiratory therapist performs therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures that provide relief to those who have difficulty breathing, or can’t breathe on their own. The Carrington College Respiratory Care associate degree program can equip students with the necessary skills to offer patients care in settings like hospitals, physicians’ offices, hyperbaric oxygen units, skilled nursing facilities, laboratories, and even medical flight transports.
Students of our Respiratory Care program receive the hands-on training needed to help them succeed in a career as a respiratory therapist. Here are just a few great reasons to consider a respiratory care education at Carrington College:
Respiratory care practitioners have to exercise considerable independent clinical judgment in the care of patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders; they also consult with other health care professionals to help develop patient care plans. That’s why earning your credentials from the Carrington College Respiratory Care program is just the first step on your path to qualification; graduates must also pass the NBRC CRT exam to gain the entry-level credential needed before they can qualify for state licensure.
Once you’ve successfully completed the Carrington College Respiratory Care program, you should have the skills and the confidence to:
As a Respiratory Therapist you can treat a variety of respiratory conditions including asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer, stroke, heart attack, and birth defects to name just a few. You could also treat trauma victims and surgery patients; or be involved in education and rehabilitation services, as well as diagnostic testing.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Respiratory Therapists is expected to grow by 21 percent from 2008 to 2018*; that’s much faster than the average for all occupations. The increasing demand is expected to come from substantial growth in the middle-aged and elderly population - a development that will likely increase the incidence of cardiopulmonary disease.
