Pharmacy technicians receive and fill prescriptions under the supervision of licensed pharmacists in settings that include hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, or pharmaceutical companies. Students on the Carrington College Pharmacy Technology program learn a basic knowledge of pharmacy calculations, drug distribution methods and systems, and the chemical/physical characteristics of drugs. They learn to prepare sterile dosage forms and gain a thorough knowledge of relevant terminology, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing, and documenting medications. The Carrington College Pharmacy Technology program is available at our Mesa, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, Tucson, AZ, Boise, ID, Albuquerque, NM, Portland, OR, and Spokane, WA campuses, and culminates in a Certificate of Achievement or an Associate of Science degree (Boise Campus only) in Pharmacy Technology. Graduates are eligible and prepared to sit for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) national certification exam.
