Some people think money must be our most prized possession, but those in-the-know, well they know differently! All the money in the world can’t buy you more than 60 minutes in an hour, or 24 hours in a day; time is the only thing in life that you can’t possibly get more of! So you have to use it wisely!
Carrington College California students are under time pressure; as well as finding the time for class and to study, most have to work a job, sometimes two, and many also have family commitments and friends to manage. So try these 10 CARRINGTON time saving hints and tips…they may help you achieve more in the time you have.
C – Consolidate your to-do lists and important information into one date book or calendar; be it on paper, phone or tablet, if you have one list to work from it’s easier than checking off things to do on six!
A – Action not procrastination. If you’re putting off a project because it seems to daunting, it won’t go away or get smaller on its own! Take action, and try to attack it by taking bite size chunks to bring it down to a manageable size
R – Review. If you have time between classes, use it wisely because it’s easily wasted. Review and arrange your notes from the previous class, it will get you caught up and ready to rock the next class!
R – Reward. Give yourself a break, you need it. Spent a good day studying? Try to plan a reward for yourself by doing something different. Play with the kids, meet with friends, do something that you enjoy and give your brain a rest! A planned reward will incentivize you to complete the task at hand.
I – Indigestion! Avoid this by taking the time to eat well, and to exercise regularly. Build this into your schedule because while you may think you can do without, achieving a good dose of both will improve your concentration, put you in a better frame of mind, and boost your energy levels!
N – Now! Benjamin Franklin once said “You may delay, but time will not.” Procrastination is indeed the thief of time, so don’t put it off till tomorrow! It’s amazing what you can achieve in 30 minutes or an hour if you really put your mind to it!
G – Goals – Goals give us direction. Set 15 minutes aside on a Sunday to plan your time and your goals for the week ahead. Set yourself specific goals that are measurable, realistic and achievable. Don’t just set time aside for ‘study’, be specific and set yourself something measurable to learn in each session.
T – Tired? Take a break. After about 90 minutes to 2 hours of study, most of us will start to tire, and our powers of concentration dissipate. Take a short break, grab some fresh air if you can, and then move on to another subject to revitalize and re-energize your brain.
O – Organize and prioritize. ‘First things first’ is a well used phrase, but do you live by it. Organize your day, and you week if possible, so you know what needs to be done when. But do leave some flexibility in there, because life does have a habit of getting in the way sometimes!
N – No! Don’t be afraid to use the word! If you’ve scheduled a time for studying, resting, practicing, don’t be afraid to turn down distractions if they come knocking at your door! Take a rain check and arrange it for a time that suits you! Don’t answer the phone just because it’s ringing!
