Although a continuous supply of caffeinated beverages and vending machine snacks may be convenient, they’re certainly not going to do anything to improve your energy and brain power. Instead of reaching for yet another cup of coffee and bag of chips, test out this exam week diet strategy:
Breakfast is your best friend
You know the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”? Well, it’s true, but it has to be done right. Grabbing a donut or protein bar on your way out the door simply isn’t going to cut it when you have a long day of studying ahead of you. Try to keep your breakfast balanced by eating plenty of fruit, whole grains and protein. A bowl of cereal with some strawberries or a yogurt parfait will do the trick.
Drink plenty of water
OK, we understand that coffee may be a necessary evil when it comes to keeping up your rigorous study regimen, but if you’re going to stay focused it’s important to keep hydrated as well. Buy a reusable water bottle and make a few trips to the drinking fountain during your study session – it will force you to get up and stretch your legs!
Having large meals can make you feel tired and sluggish, so to boost your brain power, maintain a steady diet of healthy snacks throughout the day. Eat plenty of fruit – the natural sugars will give you the energy you need without causing you to crash later in the day. As far as vegetables are concerned, the greener the better!
