Reduce the stress in your life with these unique tips.

Let’s face it: Stress is a natural part of life, especially when you’re a college student. But if you’re tired of people telling you to go for a run or take a hot bubble bath to clear your head and calm down, we have a few other ideas in mind. Test out these unique stress relievers and you’ll be ready to get back to the grind in no time:

1. Grab some Play-Doh

Yes, that childhood staple that provided hours of entertainment can prove to be of help in adulthood as well. Play-Doh can have a similar role to that of a stress ball and helps you relax by letting you tap into your subconscious. If you feel a little odd buying Play-Doh, give Mohdoh a try – it has the same effect with the added bonus of aromatherapy.

2. Do some light reading

OK, we know that reading is probably the last thing you want to do after hours of studying, but picking up a book that you enjoy – whether it be a murder mystery or historical fiction – will help you relax by allowing you to focus on something other than the stresses of your day.

3. Meditate

Even non-believers can practice simple forms of meditation. It’s all about tuning into your breathing to clear your mind. You can close your eyes and sit in silence, or play some soothing music to help you relax – whatever reduces your stress level.

4. Watch your favorite movie

Children of the 90s: Don’t tell us that popping in your old “Spice World” VHS doesn’t put a smile on your face. Whatever your favorite movie is, a healthy dose of nostalgia is sure to put you in a better mood. So the next time studying has got you down, allow yourself to take a break and veg out in front of the TV for an hour or two.

5. Have a solo dance party

Like watching a good film, putting on your favorite song is sure to brighten your day. The next time you find you just can’t concentrate any longer, take a short break and have a little dance party with yourself. An added bonus? You’ll be inadvertently exercising, which also helps reduce stress.

6. Take a trip to the pet store

Whether you’re staring into a fish aquarium or playing with a puppy, there are plenty of ways to improve your mood at a pet store. Both activities are powerful stress relievers (not to mention free!).
