Where can I work as a Medical Biller and Coder?

Most of the time you’ll work in a hospital or a doctor or dental office, but you can also work for insurance companies.

In a hospital you’ll bill and code a TON of insurance submissions. That means you’ll work with patients dealing with all kinds health issues and will code countless medical conditions. It’s a great place to learn about a bunch of different health conditions.

Want to focus on one area of medicine? Then a doctor’s office might be a good fit! You’ll usually work with a small team that codes and bills procedures to get paid by insurance companies.

If you work for the insurance company it’s your job to make sure the claims coming in are legit. You’ll work with a lot of codes here, but on the other side of the business. You’ll also help process those claims for payment.

 

Where do I go to school for this?

Carrington College offers both certificates and degree options in Medical Billing and Coding. A certificate program could be a great way to get started fast…they usually cost less and take less time to finish. A lot of students earn their certificate first, then go back to school for their associates degree later on.

Too busy to spend time in a classroom?

Carrington has an online certificate program for Medical Billing and Coding too! You can fit your school work into your schedule (and do it in your pjs). Online is a great option for students who work during normal class times or have a family to take care of.
