Dental Assisting – A Mouth Watering Opportunity!

Dental AssistantDental Assisting is forecast to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next few years, in fact the U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos167.htm) forecasts that employment of Dental Assistants will grow 36% from 2008 to 2018, and that is much faster than the average for all occupations*.

So now you’ve seen the opportunity, you may be wondering what exactly a Dental Assistant does?  Well, as the job title suggests, a Dental Assistant helps dentists and hygienists with chairside patient care in oral care facilities such as dental offices, hospitals, or clinics.  As well as clinical assisting, they are also expected to perform various office, lab and clinical duties.

You don’t have to be licensed to work as a Dental Assistant in California, but unlicensed Dental Assistants are subject to certain laws and restrictions governing their conduct, and they are only allowed to perform very limited clinical duties.  That’s why the Carrington College California Dental Assisting program prepares our graduates for the California Dental Board Exam for licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant; it also includes preparation to earn the necessary X-ray license, coronal polish, infection control, California Dental Practice Act, CPR and Pit and Fissure certification.+

Our degree and/or certificate classes provide our students the practical training they needed to help them succeed in their Dental Assisting career; they learn patient prep, charting, and office administrative functions, and gain a mix of practical experience through lab, clinical and lecture class sessions, as well as enjoying a clinical externship in a real dental facility.

Obviously every work place is different, but being a Dental Assistant can be fun, fast paced and challenging. You can expect diverse responsibilities and a stimulating environment; so if you’d like to get your teeth into a good career with a healthy employment outlook, talk to a Carrington College California Enrollment Services Representative today at 1.855.288.2195.
