Karen Hurst’s motto is to “own your education.” As National Dean of Carrington College’s general education courses, Karen loves getting to work with students in all areas of study!
“It’s so rewarding watching our students learn and take what they learn in our classrooms into the field,” she said.
Hurst took a non-traditional route for her own education. “After high school I took 15 years to complete my Bachelor’s degree (and had a 6 month old when I finished).” She graduated with a degree in Business Administration and went on to complete her MBA and then earned a Master’s degree in Project Management before receiving her PhD from the University of Virginia.
After spending 18 years in the corporate world, Hurst decided to become an educator.
“It sounds cliché to say that I wanted to give back, but that’s truly what happened,” she said.
Hurst works with students in all areas of study, but she’s a self-proclaimed math geek at heart. “I love math and find myself doing math problems and games for fun,” she said.
In her free time, you’ll find Hurst making her own glass beads. She has her own torch kiln and glass!
